Black Dragon

about us

Black Dragon is a new restaurant in Reykjavík, but Black Dragon's main focus & direction is French-Asian cuisine with an Icelandic twist, which is both fascinating to the eye and the taste buds. Dishes that have never been seen in this country and there is no comparable place here either. We will use Icelandic ingredients along with others that are not considered traditional in this country, but the combination of all this gives the food at Black Dragon an adventurous touch. We put our "take" on the dishes and play the Icelandic ingredients a lot in it, as well as being ready to adapt to the cuisine but without losing our essence.

The idea came to the spot after knowing and reading about this particular period in history:

The French influence on Vietnamese cuisine began in the early 17th century when Catholic missionaries came to Vietnam, but ended up annexing the country and establishing the Indochina Federation in 1887, which caused the French influence to live there for the next 70 years. The cuisine and ingredients of the local people changed a lot and it became this huge fun fusion of French & Vietnamese cuisine that is still popular today. A lot of taste, beautiful colors, religion and experience are the characteristics of this style of food and it quickly spread to other Asian countries.

One of the most famous sandwiches in the world, Banh mi is for example made from a French baguette with meat and vegetables from the natives. The Asian soups are also under French influence, such as, for example. Pho, which is one of the most well-known soups in the world, and Ramen soup is a spicy soup from Japan, but there are noodle soups that contain either pork, beef, or chicken, along with fresh vegetables, chili, onions, mushrooms, etc. And just for fun, we can mention that Ramen soup is no. 2 in the world as the most popular Asian dish, while Sushi is no. one.

Of course, we also offer a good selection of French, Italian & Icelandic wines as well as several types of quality champagne. Exciting beers from Iceland and Asia and much more, such as Munkaskot from Icelandic Hollust, and we will also have some well-chosen cocktails that reflect the spirit & direction of the place.
